2018 April Open Day

British Horological Institute – South London Branch
Open Day – Saturday 14th April 2018
The South London Branch of the British Horological Institute held an open day on Saturday 14th April 2018. We welcomed over 300 visitors.
Branch Vice President Ron Rose said “the purpose of the day was to promote awareness of horology and the activities of the British Horological Institute in today’s world and show that there are still opportunities to develop a rewarding career in horology.”
The previous Open Day was held in 2016 and was also attended by several hundred members of the public with many spending several hours at the show participating in the activities. This years show was expanded to include three halls and includes representatives from organisations offering training and careers in horology.
The day will showcased:
Clocks and models built by BHI members.
Clock Case woodworking.
Interactive demonstrations with something to take away -cleaning, polishing, silvering, drilling, reaming
Working on the watchmakers lathe – balance staff turning.
Engine Turning.
Clockwork wheel cutting.
Engraving.
Association of Musical Box Collectors.
Turret Clocks – Cumbria Clock Co
Antiquarian Horological Society
Local Evening Classes
BHI short courses.
Epping Forest Horology Centre
West Dean College – conservation of clocks.
British School of Watchmaking.
Birmingham City University – Horology BA (Hons).
The Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.
Charles Frodsham and Co Ltd.
Selection of coffee table books for sale.
H S Walsh horology supplies – tools and clock parts.
